Singers need to eat!

From June 23rd to June 27th, Berks Youth Chorus (BYC) is running Summer Sing II at Kesher Zion Synagogue (KZ) and we (a group of folks in the Reading/Berks Jewish community) are going to feed them delicious kosher lunches.

Summer Sing II is a week-long day camp available for free to kids right from our neighborhood! More info on this wonderful program is below. BYC is running the program (with up to 20 kids and 10 staff members), KZ is donating their gorgeous space and here's where you come in: we need your help to cover the cost of lunches.

Please give any amount that you can and spread the word. Any amount we receive over the cost of food will be donated to support BYC's wonderful programs.

Want to help out with food prep, serving, clean up, etc.? Contact Rabbi Minna Bromberg by clicking the "Contact" button.

More on Summer Sing from the BYC website: Summer Sing I and II are week-long day camps, open free to area schoolchildren. Each camp runs one full week in June. Summer Sing I is offered to children who have just completed grades 3 through 5; Summer Sing II is offered to children who have just completed grades 6 through 8. Each camp concludes with a special afternoon performance

Summer Sing welcomes any child, with or without musical training. No auditions are held. The camp is for children who want a fun summer experience with other children who like to sing. The focus is on choral singing and musical training for young treble voices.

Summer Sing combines hard work and hard play! The combination of serious music making and traditional camp activities make Summer Sing! a unique summer experience. The curriculum includes large and small group singing, and classes in recorders, sight singing, theory and voice. Songs include a variety of world music, some using Orff percussion instruments. Each child receives an official Summer Sing t-shirt and is provided with all music and education materials.

Summer Sing is offered to reach more singers, particularly those who do not have the resources (financial, family, time, etc.) to commit to a full year of membership in the regular program.

We did it! Between these contributions and the generosity of The Jewish Federation of Reading/Berks, we've reached our goal. Anything else we raise will go right to Berks Youth Chorus to support their terrific work. So grateful to everyone who contributed financially and to everyone who's gonna be in the kitchen with me.
