Lisa's battle against cancer

Dear Friends,

You are reading this because you want to learn more about Lisa and would like to offer help. Thank you for taking time to read the following message.

Lisa Zhao was a librarian at the University of Illinois in Chicago when she was diagnosed with stage four GBM brain cancer in July 2014. She was born in 1950 in Ha’erbin, China. She earned two MS degrees from UIC and UIUC and has worked at the UIC libraries since 1989. She has been a long-time member of the Chinese American Librarians Association and was president from 2013-2014. She has been the loving wife of Shawn for more than 36 years and a passionate mom to their son Alan. Lisa has been an honest, devoted, courageous, just, and generous person over the course of her professional and private life. She has battled brain cancer for about 14 months, the maximum length her doctor estimated that she can survive following the strongest radiation/chemotherapy treatment she received.

Lisa lost cognition, speech, and mobility skills in January 2015. Unable to voice, communicate or take care of her self,  she entered hospice care and has been in the care of her husabnd at home since April. She takes a few alternative medications that cost more than $2000 a month which is not covered by Medicare. Her husband is providing care for her at their home with assistance from their son. An extra pair of hands is needed to help lessen the load off Shawn and Alan's shoulders.

Lisa always thinks about others and helps them first. She won’t be able to do that anymore. We ask for your prayers or donations to help cover the cost of medication, homecare, and other associated expenses.

Fighting cancer for fourteen months seems like fourteen years to herself and her family. We can at least do some small acts of kindness to show our love and care for this courageous women and her loving family. It is never too late to show your generosity toward someone in need. It is never too late for those who have been helped by Lisa to show their gratitude and appreciation.

Thank you for reading this message. Please help us by helping Lisa.

Friends of Lisa, Xiayang and Alan.
