Ashley Baker Taube, our dear friend, colleague, mother, wife, sister, daughter and mentor is about to embark on her second battle with pancreatic cancer.
She was first diagnosed in 2012, at age 31, just before her son Fischer's first birthday. She made an amazing recovery from her whipple surgery, which removed her tumor and portions of her internal organs, but her physicians warned her that the cancer may return. Against incredible odds, during her remission, Ashley and her husband Mike welcomed Baker, their second beautiful baby boy.
A few weeks ago, at Ashley's annual scan, her physicians noted an unusual "spot" on her pancreas. She underwent additional scans immediately following Christmas, and these scans confirmed that the cancer has indeed returned. Ashley will begin treatment in the next few weeks. Her treatment plan is still unknown, and Ashley and Mike have significant concerns not only about Ashley's health, but also how they will care for their two boys while Ashley battles pancreatic cancer for a second time.
This is where we can help. Our goal is to raise $20,000 to help with her medical and childcare expenses.
Ashley is a part-time math teacher at Mill Creek High School in Gwinnett County, Georgia. She also coaches the competition cheerleading squad and has been a positive influence and role model for her young cheerleaders. Her husband, Mike, is also a teacher at Mill Creek and works as an Athletic Trainer with Mill Creek High School sports teams. They have committed themselves to serving their community and developing their students into responsible young men and women. Our hope is that her community will rally behind her and her family and provide them with the support they need to help her fight this disease.
