Lindsay's Living & Medical Expenses

Donation protected
On Wednesday, September 25, 2019, I took Lindsay to the ER for what we thought was just a "typical" kidney infection (our family is known for our kidney & kidney stone problems). They took blood and urine samples and sent them off for cultures. They started her giving her IV fluids, pain and nausea meds, and a round of IV antibiotics. Her white blood cell count was elevated and it was very obvious there was an infection in her. They had to do a CT scan to look at her kidneys as well. She was feeling better after about 2 hours and was ready to go home on oral antibiotics. That was, until she got up to leave and the pain immediately came back in her kidneys. She still went home that night and rested and said she would see how she felt on Thursday.

The next day, she got a call from the hospital saying her cultures had came back (less than 24 hours later) and that she was septic and had E. Coli in her bloodstream. They told her she had to go to the hospital immediately and be admitted for IV medicine, observation, and more tests. I took her back to CMC-Northeast ER to be admitted. After a CT scan and looking at the 24 hour blood cultures the ER doctor told her to be prepared for at least a 7 day stay. They said that E. Coli had gotten smart and was resistant to normal oral antibiotics. This obviously completely broke Lindsay's heart as she misses everything when she is away from her babies. She also knew they both had games on Saturday and she's never missed one.

After being admitted, the infectious disease doctor came to her room to speak with her. She said with Lindsay being young and healthy and not normally on antibiotics, she HIGHLY doubted she would have the strand of E. Coli that resisted oral antibiotics, and the chances of the 48 hour culture coming back with with that result, was highly unlikely. We all thought Lindsay would be out by Sunday. Lindsay saw hope at the end of the tunnel. When the results for the 48 blood culture came in Saturday morning, Lindsay does indeed have the E. Coli strand that is resistant to oral antibiotics. The doctor told her she could either stay in the hospital for 10 days to receive treatment of the IV antibiotic, or wait until Monday and have a midline placed. She will be able to go home with a midline but will have to go to the hospital every day for 8 days to get the IV infusions. Lindsay is obviously choosing the midline so she can be home with Caisyn and Cooper.

For anyone that knows Lindsay, is to know that Caisyn and Cooper are her life! She's a single mom and deals with the struggles that every single mother fights with. She is supermom, as you will often hear Lindsay's friends say. It's true, I don't know how she does it all alone! Although she has an AMAZING circle of family and friends helping with everything with the kids, she is still super stressed about normal monthly bills coming in and medical bills that are shortly on the way. She HAS to be out of work for 2 weeks due to this. They won't let her work with a midline in. So I am asking you all, to please consider donating to Lindsay to help with the stresses she should not even be worrying about right now. If you cannot help monetarily, we completely understand and ask for prayers for continued healing in Lindsay's body. The emotional and mental toll this has taken on her is immeasurable. We appreciate every call, text, message, and words of encouragement but we know there is nothing like the prayers and God's healing. We are extremely lucky that this was caught early, and that it hasn't got further into her system. Please keep the kids in your prayers as well.

We love you all and please feel free to leave encouraging words with your donations if you so choose! I know each one will make Lindsay smile and help her push through this rough patch!

Love,
Julie Blum (Lindsay's sister) or Aunt JuJu (known to mostly everyone)
