Juliana's Semester at Sea voyage 2014

Hi! My name is Juliana Sierra, I was born in Colombia before my family migrated to the US back in 1997. After 17 years I am now a legal resident of the United States and a rising Junior at Elon University in North Carolina . I am majoring in International Studies with concentrations in Africa and Latin America, and minors in Political Science, Public Health, Peace and Conflict studies and Poverty and social justice studies. Recently I have been blessed with the amazing opportunity to study abroad through the Semester at Sea program for the Fall of 2014! Semester at sea gives students the opportunity to travel the world and develop a better understanding of the world as well as gain a unique academic experience. This is something I have dreamt of doing my entire life, but never thought would be possible, until now!

My family cannot support me financially with my education which has motivated me even more to be a hard worker and fight for what I want. I am a proud first generation student, and I am currently paying my own way through school by working three jobs and financial support from my school. Recently I have found out that I might not be able to recieve a loan for school next year due to not having an eligible cosigner. I will not be able to take advantage of this life changing opportunity without additional financial support. 

Which is what brings me here! I come here humbled, asking for your help and support. Participating in this Semester at Sea voyage is an investment that is truly priceless. I am very commited to making this happen. Its a life changing opportunitiy with experience that will change and influence my life for the better. Not only would it mean the world to me personally, but it would also benefit me academically and in my future career in International Issues.
