Sponsorship Statement from Siki Dlanga

I am a journalist who also serves as a board member of South African Christian Leaders Initiative (SACLI) under the leadership of Rev. Moss Ntla who has been instrumental in church leadership engagement with civil society and the state. I also started Freedom Mantle, an initiative that fosters relationships between generations of leaders. No generation exists in a vacuum nor does any people group or nation, particularly in our global world. It is more than necessary that our nation intentionally invests in grooming young leaders who are globally aware.

For this reason, I helped organize faith leaders to support the Fees Must Fall movement, a parallel movement to #BlackLivesMatter. Fees Must Fall is calling the South African University system to end its system of de facto economic educational Apartheid by making fees affordable for the impoverished masses across our country.

I have been accepted to American University in Washington, DC to earn an MA in Political Communication and have been awarded a $10,000 Merit Award from American University ($20,000 for the full duration of the course) for academic achievement and potential. Still, I may not be able to attend. Though I have searched and appealed to several sources for funding, I have not been able to raise the rest of the funding needed to register, $51,000

It is worth noting: The South African Rand is approx. 13:1 against the dollar. So, $51,000 American dollars is the equivalent of R663,000 in South Africa.

Would you consider making an investment in the future of South Africa by investing in the development of one of its future leaders?

My term begins August 2017. I need assurance of payment in order to proceed to apply for a Student Visa.
Since 19 May, I have received support for lodging and accommodation in Maryland. This takes my funding requirement down to $26,638 instead of $51,000.

In my life I have done much with little. Your investment will not be wasted on me.

Yours Sincerely,

Sikelelwa (Siki) Dlanga
