Soldier's battle with Lyme Disease

Donation protected

Hi, my name is Natalie,
Several years ago my brother contracted Lyme disease and a number of other associated diseases and became very ill whilst serving the country during one of his many deployments with the military in Afghanistan. For those who don't know about Lyme disease, it can be a severly debilitating condition that severly affects the heart, brain, nervous system, joints, muscles, immune system and the stomach. It can often cause heart attacks, seizures, strokes, severe weightloss, spinal cord problems as well as memory/brain problems. It can be compared to diseases such as multiple sclerosis, Alzhiemers, parkinsons and ALS and will eventually kill if not treated correctly. He has been battling this illness daily for the last 6 years. He has already lost over 20 kilos in body mass and has developed severe food allergies to most foods like dairy, sugars, fruit, meats, caffeine, nuts, eggs, wheat, gluten and a number of other intolerances. He also deals with severe mental and physical fatigue on a daily basis, where he needs to sleep multiple times during the day just to get through each day. There isn't a day that goes by where he doesnt feel sick. This is not something that somebody who served our country on multiple occasions should have to deal with everyday. All of his current treatment options available here in Australia have now been exhausted. He has also spent all of his savings on available treatments in Australia (in excess of $120,000) and has now run out of money to continue his current therapy. His disease has now become resistant to most of the antibiotic treatment he was on and his condition is starting to deteriorate again. The last treatment option available for him is located in a clinic in Germany, where they use advanced heat treatment methods to treat the disease, which we do not have here in Australia. The amount needed for just over a month of treatment including flights and accomodation is in excess of $70,000. The money raised will hopefully be enough to get him back on track to having a relativetly normal lifestyle again. Unfortunately the military medical system he was partially covered by, won't pay for this kind of treatment as it has not yet been validated here in Australia. He has been in and out of hospital for the last 6 years and is so tired of getting nowhere with the Aussie medical system. It has really changed him as a person and I can see how much it has affected him.
It is his dream to make a full recovery from this terrible disease by undergoing treatment in Germany. He also eventually hopes to raise enough money to bring the treatment technology to Australia and make it affordable for everyone in need. He says it would cost a few million to build a clinic with enough resources to service the needs of all the current patients suffering with Lyme disease in Australia. This disease is growing rapidly throughout the population and he believes it may soon be a very big problem amongst the population. He also wishes to use his experience to help treat others with chronic disease, cancer and other chronic fatiguing conditions. Even though he is still unwell, he is still undergoing part time medical study to be able to become a practitioner and help others recover from their illnesses. He has a true passion to help others and it really shows in his behaviour. I believe his experience would greatly benefit others in the community and even one of our own loved ones someday. Any donation towards his cause would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you so much for your kind donation, this would absolutely mean the world to our family.
