Help for Mary Lou

**UPDATE**

Unfortunately, we received a bill from my mom's nursing center yesterday that is for the full amount. We thought that after applying and getting accepted for Medicaid, some of this cost would be alleviated. The nursing center says she was not in a Medicaid approved bed so they sent a bill for a week that was not covered by her insurance and tacked some other copays on as well. The ammount of this bill far exceeds a month's income for her. I have raised our goal to the amount of this new bill. Again, if you are able to give anything, we greatly appreciate it. If you cannot, that's ok too. Thank you for reading my mom's story and finding out more about sepsis.

As some of you may know my mom, Mary Lou Matthews, suddenly became ill with sepsis on October 10th, 2015. She was in ICU for 10 days sedated, on a ventilator and on dialysis. When she finally came to, she was put in a regular hospital room. Shortly after she spent a month at a live-in rehabilitation facility.

In that one day, my mother's life was turned upside down. As a result of the infection, she has suffered physically and cognitively.  Due to the care she needs, she has had to move into my sister's house in Indiana where she continues to have physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy and cognitive therapy.

Our hope is that one day she will be able to return home and resume her regular life. The road back from sepsis is a very long and frustrating one though.

While my siblings and I are doing all we can for her in terms of her care and finances, we are finding it to be a lot to handle. This is why I am asking friends and family, if you can, please help my mom. Any funds raised will go toward medical bills, medical equipment and general upkeep of her house in Michigan (basic utilities, property taxes, snow removal, lawn care etc.).

Whatever you can give is greatly appreciated. If you cannot give that is ok too. I urge everyone reading this message to learn about sepsis. We knew it by name, but had no idea what it was capable of. It knows no age. It doesn't care how healthy you are. It can come out of nowhere just like it did with my mom. Thank you very much for your love and support!
