Two award-winning art historians -- Dr. Beth Harris and Dr. Steven Zucker -- created Smarthistory (www.smarthistory.org) to provide students around the world with quality educational resources for art and cultural heritage, for free.
These resources tend to be very expensive (as an example, textbooks cost over $200), and as such, the education is only available to a small, often privileged, group.
What Beth and Steven do is break through this privilege/cost barrier by creating accessible content themselves and with partners (e.g. the Metropolitan, Getty Museum), allowing many more students to benefit from the knowledge, regardless of whether they have access to the classes. They don't make any revenue because they provide all their videos and articles on www.smarthistory.org or through their Youtube channel.
Incredibly, this tiny team has scaled to reach millions of students, and their resources have been viewed over 13,000,000 times in the past year.
Beth and Steven sustain this full-time effort solely through donations. Please help them continue making a difference.
