Help Shawn Get Her Transplant

This campaign is for our youngest daughter, Shawn, who is in need of a life-saving transplant. Those of you that have the fortune to know Shawn, know that she truly is one-of-a-kind! She served our country in the US Air Force, raised a beautiful daughter as a single mother, and selflessly chose to join households with Mike and I to help out with Mike’s Parkinson’s.
Life changed in a matter of minutes for Shawn in March of this year. She was rushed to the ER where blood clots were found in her liver and veins. Through multiple surgeries, Shawn had to have over 90% of her small intestines removed just to survive.
She now requires intravenous nutrition every day, and is on other life-saving medications. The only cure for her condition is a multiple organ transplant. And the only hospital in the state of Florida that performs this very rare transplant is in Miami.
Shawn has always been a provider. To her daughter, her family and everyone that she cares for. However, she is unable to work now due to her health and is facing a mountain of medical expenses. The transplant can happen any day, but she will have to stay in the hospital for a while, and then in Miami for a few months for doctors’ visits and follow-up care.
It’s so hard to watch my baby girl go through this, but to know that she will have some help would relieve a huge burden for us all. We often hear about the importance of organ donation. We seldom hear about the costs associated for the recipient awaiting the transplant.
