Service Dog

My mom has Type I diabetes.  She's had it for 40 yrs.  I am a high school student and every day I worry about my mom's health and that there will be someone around to help her with her diabetes when I'm finished high school in 2 years.  I have grown up with diabetes in the house and it is not a simple or a one size fits all disease to manage.  My mom has a Diabetic Alert Service dog right now named Echo but Echo will be retiring in 3 or 4 years.   Service dogs have a working span of 9-10 years.  My mom will be getting a new service dog in the Spring of 2019 and Echo will be mentoring the new dog.  It takes two years to fully train a service dog.  By the end of training Echo will be retiring.  Due to a dog's keen sense of smell Echo can detect a high or low blood sugar almost an hour before the blood glucose meter can.  This means a Diabetic Alert Dog helps prevent dangerous blood glucose highs and lows.  Having a Diabetic Alert Dog has allowed my mom to get better control of her disease and keep it manageable by helping to prevent diabetic complications like vision loss, kidney failure and many others that can compromise one's health.  Having a Diabetic Alert service dog  has allowed my mom to return to work and get proper rest.  Echo will night alert (wake up my mom if her blood sugar goes out of range).   My mom has decided to get another service dog to help her continue to fight against the complications and helping to control the disease.  The total cost for the dog and the training will be $18,000 Canadian.  I am hoping to fundraise whatever amount by December 1/2018 to help pay for the new service dog and the training.  I hope you can take this all into consideration and make a donation.  Every bit helps.  Please spread the word.  Your help is much appreciated.
