Surgery for MADDY

As all of you are aware, MADDY has had ongoing ear infections since we rescued her from the shelter in February 2019.  She has recently had a CT Scan of her head and two biopsies.  The CT scan did not show any abnormalities but her biopsies showed chronic otitis media (ear infection) with a pre-cancerous transformation.  MADDY'S ear specialist, Dr. Gouldin, at Carolina Veterinary Specialists has recommended a surgical procedure called a total ear canal ablation which is the surgical removal of the entire ear canal.  A second procedure, called a bulla osteotomy, is performed during the same surgery.  By opening and clearing the bulla of all infected material combined with the ear canal removal, the chances of future infection are greatly decreased.  We would like to get this surgery completed as soon as possible so that MADDY can finally have some relief from the pain. 

As you also know,  MADDY and her sister GRACE were adopted in July 2019.  Our rescue does not normally adopt out sick dogs but in this case we approved the adoption with the understanding that the rescue would be financially responsible for any testing or surgery that is recommended.  With the wonderful help of all of you, we were able pay for her CT Scan.  Her new parents have suggested that we split the cost of the surgery which is estimated to be $4000.00.  We  have graciously accepted their offer to help with the costs.
