Healing Emily Grace
$7,554 of $26,000 goal
On May 2nd, 2014 our lives were turned upside down when our youngest daughter Emily Kozak was diagnosed with Leukemia or Pre-B Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia.
I took Emily to her pediatrician on Friday thinking that she had Allergies, she sent Emily for a Chest X-Ray and Blood Work. By the time Emily and I came home we were told to go to Metro Health Center as we were expected. My heart dropped. I had no idea what was wrong, but knew it wasn't good by the urgency of the doctor to get her to the hospital.
It was at Metro they informed that she had Leukemia and that she needed to be life-flighted to Rainbow Babies and Children's Hospital. Here they did a bone marrow biopsy and lumbar puncture and confirmed Emily's diagnosis.
The Leukemia cells completely took over her blood and no longer worked to fight infection. Emily has NO Immune system. Therefore she will not be able to go home until it is safe to do so. Her team of doctors expect that she will be hospitalized for at least 28 days from the start of her therapy.
Thank you for your support and in turn helping to save Emily's life!
**Note: Any money raised above our initial goal will be donated to the other children on Rainbow 2 at Rainbow Babies and Children's Hospital.
Emily is one tough chick and proved it over and over throughout treatment. Now is her time to heal completely.
We have a fun fall celebration planned for her..... At DisneyWorld! I can't think of a better place to celebrate her and her accomplishment of kicking cancer right in the butt.
She went to Disney for her Make-a-wish trip and at that time she was still very sick. Now, we will celebrate and enjoy as a mostly healthy child.
To you all, Thank you again, you're love and generosity never ceased to surprise me.
Wednesday will be her final oral chemotherapy.
After some very dark times during Emily's treatment I can't believe we are here..... The end.
I pray we've done everything we had to, to keep Emily in a "Forever Remission".
She will have frequent check ups over the next few years, and be followed for the rest of her life, but in 5 years we can have another celebration to call her "cured". ❤️
Today was kind of bittersweet. The fellow that has been with Emily since diagnosis will be leaving soon, so we had to say goodbye. Dr. Hashem we wish you all the best.
In other news..... NO abnormal cells this month. Yay!! I don't know what happened last month, maybe it was an end of treatment; Friday the 13th scare. Lol.
Emily is pretty is exhausted from the chemo, so it looks like it's going to be a quiet evening at home.
As always, Thank you all for your constant support. ❤️
In other news, Emily made her apperance in the city's local newspaper. :)
According to Emily's 9 year old uncle.... She's famous.
