90 year old Somali mother

Update:

Somali Faces would like to thank each and every one of you who donated for Ayeeyo Muumino, the 90-year-old grandmother. We are grateful to all those who donated, supported and shared. May Allah reward you in this world and Here-After. Here is the long awaited video.

A few weeks ago, she was begging on the street, hopeless and penniless and now, she has a firm room over her head, assets and can finally rest. We thank each every one of you for your unrelenting generosity and efforts to change this grandmother’s life and our team on the ground. Somali Faces made sure that every dollar you donated was spent towards her family and we were involved in every step when it came to the materials and how the money will be managed. Unfortunately, we still require additional fundraiser to finalise the shop items (see below).

Information about the total donations (for transparency purposes). We have raised £5,677 (GoFundMe removed £50 as duplicate payment) via GoFundMe and they deducted their fees and Stripe fees for which we received £5,127.01. The total money that we sent via Dahabshiil was £5126.93. This amounted to $6,408.66 for which the money transfer company deducted 2% transaction fees. The final total she received was $6283.00.

Day One:
- $2285 material/qalabka
- $210 labour/shaqaale
- $80 district/degmada fee
- $65 transport/xamaali fee
Day Two:
- $125 five/shan windows/daaqado
- $200 labour/shaqaale
- $61 water pipes/tubo biyo
Day three
- $145.50 material /qalabka
- $56 security fee ($7 per day for 8 days) / waardiye
- $30 lamaayeri
- $260 labour / shaqaale
- $140 soil (two types) / caro (labo nooc)
- $561 more material needed / qalab
- $35 transportation fee / geeynta

Constructing the house and shop / dhisida guriga iyo tukaanka: $3,548.50
The land cost was $3,000. The dalaal was $200 and the notary was $50.
Total: $6798.50 (excluding labour costs as SOMTECH Engineering paid for those)

Total fund-raised: $6283.00. Total spent: $6798.50

We went over our budget slightly, but there is still a little bit of work left. We require funding for the ceiling cover (safiito) and the shop materials (shop products to sell and essential items). Her grandson will be provided free training on how to run the shop.

As the first fundraiser was impromptu, we are $3,000 (roughly £2,500) short and will be briefly accepting donations on the original fundraiser page to raise the additional costs. Can we make this happen SF Community?

Somali Faces has interviewed and shared extraordinary stories of hundreds of Somalis from across the globe. One particular story that we captured recently and tugged our heartstrings was the story of a 90-year-old grandmother with a disabled son. She had a total of 7 children, but 6 of them died at a young age. She now takes care of her only child and his grandson: feeds, clothes and sleeps beside him.  Please share and donate generously.
