Support the Queer South Asian Float at World Pride!
Toronto will be hosting World pride this year, and the Queer South Asian contingent in the parade has to be bigger and louder than ever before. Queer South Asians have made historical impacts this year through multiple efforts such as supporting the fight against criminalization of homosexuality in India. But we also had lots to celebrate such as landmark rulings in Bangladesh, India and Pakistan that transgender people would be officially recognised as a third gender.
We want to acknowledge, celebrate and make a loud, fun and impactful statement in the pride parade with a float, that we queer South Asians are proud, strong, and that we exist!
Toronto's Queer South Asian community is growing and has come from a rich history!
- From 1987-1992, The group Khush existed and provided a safe space for social interaction within the city and acted as a symbol of encouragement to South Asian gays and lesbians living outside of Canada.
- Khush also gave birth to the Alliance for South Asian AIDS Prevention (ASAAP), as well as Desh Pardesh, a cultural arts festival
Having a parade float is expensive and we need your help! Our goal is to raise $3000 which will cover costs for items such as the flatbed, sound system, decorations, and signage "“ as well as the labour associated with it.

If you can't participate financially, it would be greatly appreciated if you could spread the message that the more people dancing, and marching with us in the parade THE BETTER! We want a large contingent, and for that to happen, we need people! So spread the word!
