Bring Our Girl Home!!

Donation protected
On Tuesday July 24th we took our Marvella into the vet for an overnight stay and based on the X-rays, gait, and pain - our vet moderately suspected hip dysplasia. We figured it for sure was, simply because the signs were always there. In addition, her white blood cell count was slightly elevated so we made an appointment for follow up blood work for that Saturday and took her home the following day (Wednesday at noon, to be exact).

Thursday morning we took her back to the vet as we knew she was in incredible amounts of pain. Good thing we did as her white cell count almost doubled. Did an ultrasound to see if there was anything - still inconclusive so our vet wanted to open her up and remove the uterus since she was intact.

This is when we found out our girl, low and behold, was pregnant and miscarried. And there was in fact an infection. We were completely shocked as we never took our eyes off her. But, I guess it could have taken seconds one of the four times we went to the dog park - and perhaps she wasn't playing.

During this surgery, we decided to spade her. We were told the next day, that although she was recovering well from the surgery, her white blood cell count was still climbing - and her pain was persisting.

She was hooked up to IV and meds since Thursday, and on Friday they gave her a fentanyl patch.

She did have one tick early spring, and it wouldn't appear it was attached that long - but perhaps that's enough for Lyme disease. We started on this treatment Saturday morning - with no signs of improvement. As a last ditch effort, she has been administered a steroid as of Sunday night.

We were given the option of taking her to get further testing at a veterinary hospital 3 hours away, with the possibility of spending thousands of dollars more than we already have, for advanced testing, with the possibility of more surgeries. Financially we cannot support this option.

The vet says she's fighting. Her tail still wags when you ask if she needs to go for a walk (to pee- which she does, but with great difficulty). Although very lethargic, when we visited her Saturday she did sit up (see picture).

Our Marvella turns 1 year old on August 14th and what I wouldn't give to have her home with us. The pain we feel is very real. She is our life.

The monies would cover the costs at the veterinary hospital in Saskatoon, Sk. In the event that the funds
are no longer required, they will be swiftly refunded.

I've included her sweet Santa Clause photo too - just because it'll forever bring a smile to our faces.
