Jeremiah's Journey

Donation protected
All funds donated go directly to Jeremiah's father, Shannon Derks.

Jeremiah Derks, age 12 was diagnosed on July 2, 2018 with a rare form of cancer, Chondroblastic Osteosarcoma.

Jeremiah is currently undergoing Chemo treatments at Riley Children’s Hospital in Indianapolis, IN and recently underwent extensive surgery on his left leg.  Results from the surgery are still pending.

Jeremiah is inpatient every week for his chemo treatments.  Chemo has been extremely harsh on his little body and he's been pretty sick with each round.  He will have difficulty for the rest of his life with the leg as he has lost all function without the use of a brace.

Jeremiah is a quiet and extremely humble young boy with a terrific and loving personality and a soft and kind gentle spirit.

On Friday, August 31, 2018 Jeremiah was surprised by Capt. Jerry Asher accompanied by Sheriff Steve Rogers and several Deputy Sheriff’s and was sworn in as an honorary Deputy Sheriff of the Howard County Sheriff’s Department.  After his swearing in Jeremiah was given a ride in the Sheriff’s vehicle and he loved every minute of it especially going fast and getting to turn on the siren.  He was then also visited by Capt. Kevin Summers of the Kokomo, IN police department.  Capt. Summers has been a tremendous help to the family.

A drive started on Facebook to collect Police, Fire, EMS and Military patches has virtually gone viral.  Jeremiah has received hundreds of patches from all over the world.  Many Police Departments from far away have made the drive to Kokomo to present Jeremiah personally with patches, shirts and more.  Jeremiah hopes to have a job in law enforcement in his future.

Jeremiah has 3 brothers, Brenden age 13, Johnny age 11 and Blake age 7.   His parents, Shannon and Alisha and brothers reside in Kokomo, IN.

Funds will be used to offset unpaid medical bills, travel expenses and anything that is needed for Jeremiah during his fight.  Jeremiah's family is now down to one income and it has been very difficult to make ends meet as Mom and  Dad are also required to be at the hospital with Jeremiah.
