I am a Canadian Skeleton athlete -my goals are personal, with the added bonus of National representation, and the pride that goes with it! Athletes are entertainers at the root of it. We are hooked to the adreneline rush, and the happy-stress of competition. It is almost primal! I have been competing my whole life and I love it. My sport these days has me travelling around the Globe 5 months of the year.
Skeleton is any Saskatchewan boy's dream, there was never a toboggan hill big enough, or fast enough when I was young, but I don't make that complaint anymore...
Things are going well, and I get to go fast! Last season I was number 2 in Canada, and 22 in the World. There is much work to be done as I fine tune these new skills, but a new issue presented itself recently.
Canada Skeleton is broke. They were able to pay for my season last year, but the reserves are gone and there's nothing to help. Our World Cup team fees are $22,500 for this season. On top of that, I bought my own beautiful new race sled at roughly $15,000 CAD. I am lost. I work hard in the off season, training 6 days of the week, while working up to 40 hours bartending, but it's not enough. The math is broken -I have lived at a deficit for years, but the next step will be too much.
I have avoided Crowd funding through 4 years of development, but now I need your help, I need to spread the word. I know I can be there to represent Sasakatchewan and Canada at the next Olympic Games in South Korea, 2018, I'm just not sure if I can get there on my own.
