Catastrophic Illness Expenses
We are rallying support for Helen Valdez Kilbourne, and her family. Helen is my sister-in-law, married to my brother for nearly 11 years. She will celebrate her 50th birthday this November. She has two older boys, and a young daughter and son. Helen was admitted to the hospital the day after Easter and hasn't left. Many days of testing later, our worst fears have come to pass. She is fighting a grave illness that will have an enormous financial impact on their family. Times were difficult for them prior to this medical event with my brother's loss of job security and insurance benefits. Any help is greatly appreciated so they can focus their energy on Helen's health, and supporting each other through this uncertain path. Thank you for your prayers, support, well wishes and generosity.

Helen finished all 8+ hours of her first round of chemotherapy like a champ. After 15 long days and nights, she was released from the hospital Tuesday. Preparing herself for one of the most difficult parts of the journey ahead, Helen took the bull by the horns today and got a short, sassy hairdo which will make losing her hair a little less daunting. She has a doctor's appointment this week, then needs to rest up and catch her breath for the second round of chemo on May 25th.
Meanwhile, the outpouring of support from friends and family has been SO touching. As Helen said, "I cannot put into words how grateful we are to have such a wonderful and supportive family in our corner."
