Faith Beats Cancer
Faith relapsed in the central nervous system. She endured more chemo and suffered chemo toxicity in the CNS along with several other horrible complications. She finally achieved remission again. We were scheduled for a bone marrow transplant in Houston. While in Houston for pre BMT appointments, we had to evacuate due to Hurricane Harvey.
We had to relocate her to City of Hope in LA. Right before transplant, her donor suddenly went missing. During the 3 weeks while we were searching for a new donor, she relapsed again in the CNS. She tried a new treatment which did not work. She then had more aggressive chemo and another episode of chemo toxicity in the CNS, resulting in her 2nd brain injury. She then completed 18 doses of radiation, which was a combination of cranial and full body. She had to go to transplant even though she was not in remission. Time was running out.
Prayers were answered and her original donor returned. She went to transplant on December 21st and had several complications. She triumphed over everything and is now in remission. Faith is currently a 3 time Leukemia survivor and a bone marrow transplant survivor.
While Faith was in the transplant process, her father lost his job and now it is uncertain where we stand with her insurance and child support. She is scheduled to discharge from the hospital today, however, her insurance will not cover 2 of the meds at all and several of the other meds have a $500 copay on them. I have been unsuccessful in reaching her father and am not in a position to cover these meds for her to leave the hospital.
I have not been able to work as I am her full time caregiver. Over the next year, I will be caring for her in her recovery and taking her to all her medical appointments. We currently do not have a permanent place to live near City of Hope where she needs to continue follow up care. We are also not in a physical or financial position to return to Texas.
Our main goal today is raising enough money to cover her required prescriptions so she can be released from the hospital.
Thank you for your love and generosity!
