Jay's Cancer Fund

I have started this fund to raise money to support my family while my son goes through his cancer treatment that we are traveling out of state for, just the three of us Jon; my daughter and myself.

Eight months ago our family was devastated when my 16 year old son Jon was diagnosed with Thyroid Cancer. Shortly thereafter, he had his first surgery a Bilateral Total Thyroidectomy leaving a large painful scar from ear to ear. After the first surgery we were sure all the cancer was gone then in January 2016 we discovered he had some other cancerous tissues growing, infact a more rare form of childhood thyroid cancer has now emerged in his case which the cancer grows out of the normal areas, the doctors here in New Mexico say they have only seen this type of case once before. Five days before his17th birthday Jon underwent his second surgery where they re-opened the left side of his neck (about a 6 inch incision), removed cancer from the back of the throat and behind the collar bone. We were sure it must be over, that the cancer must be gone this time after two very extensive and painful surgeries then just a few weeks ago we found more potentially cancerous lumps on the right side of his neck.

At this time I have decided the general surgeons here in New Mexico have tried their best but it's important to have my son seen by a specialist now as the cancer seems to be very stubborn! So I found him a Thyroid Cancer Endocrinologist at the UCLA in California, they have a special research team there for Thyroid Cancer so I'm confident they can see what the other doctors have been missing. Now it's time we travel from NM to CA for my sons treatment. Things have not been easy for our family over the last several months and it seems life is throwing us all the obstacles in the world!! Most recently on March7th someone came to my house and stole my truck just to strip it of its new tires and rims that I had put on there to get us safely to our destination out of state. I found my truck the next morning less than a mile away sitting on blocks, they also stole my battery and destroyed my steering column needles to say the truck isn't driveable. We are supposed to be leaving town in less than a week on March 17th to get him to his first appointment in California. We are in hopes we can raise enough money to get the truck on the road in time, we can't delay with these treatments. The support fund for Jon will be used over the next several months to provide housing, food and transportation for our family while we are out of town for the treatments.
