On May 14th, 2019, our dear friend and brother in law Andreas Moraitis suffered a massive, unexplained stroke that left him unable to speak and paralyzed on his right side. Andreas is just 24 years old.
Myself and Tara have created this GoFundMe page on behalf of Andreas and his partner Nicci in hopes of raising enough donations to cover the medical expenses and financial difficulities they will be facing.
Andreas and Nicci moved to Guernsey from Lesvos, Greece for work in January of this year. Andreas suffered the stroke in Guernsy and was immediately airlifted to Southhampton General Hospital where he is in an acute stroke unit and is monitored every hour. There, the medical staff found that the stroke occured on the left side of his brain which is why speech and motor function on the his ride side have been affected. For the first few days in hospital, it was unclear whether or not Andreas would survive. Thankfully he has! And not only that, but he has shown improvement! He has begun to speak and he's been able to make some movements on his right side. We're feeling tremendously optimistic about his ability to recover from this...but we need your help.
His mother and father have visited him during the first critical week . He will need physiotherapy on the right side of his body as well as speech therapy, especially over the next two months as this is the critical window of recovery for stroke victims. Throughout this journey, Nicci has not left Andreas's side once and she will continue to be at his side, guiding him through his therapy and surrounding him with the love and positivty he needs to get through this. The cost of accomodation near the hospital and being unable to work for an unknown period is a huge source of concern as well.
Andreas is in need of your donations. Any support that can be raised so all the focus can be on Andreas' recovery and help with the medical bills would be very much appreciated. Even the smallest donation is a significant help.
