Medical Transport for Geoff Pocock

Donation protected
Geoff Pocock, beloved Ventura artist, WAV resident, father and partner, had a severe stroke on September 29th. He was working a show in Springfield, MA and was having difficulty breathing, which led him to go to the Emergency Room. There he suffered a severe stroke which has left the right side of his body paralyzed and has severely affected his ability to speak. Up until a few days ago, he was not able to swallow and has been on a feeding tube.

Due to other complications that occurred after the stroke (including blood clots, pulmonary embolisms, pneumonia, a UTI, blood loss, etc) he has been in and out of the ICU repeatedly and has finally managed to overcome all of these set backs and is now in rehab.

His partner Angie has been by his side every step of the way, sleeping on a recliner next to his bedside for the past 6+ weeks, caring for him and supporting him every step of the way.

While we are ecstatic that he is finally "out of the woods" and able to be released from rehab, we now need to find a way to arrange for a medical transport from Springfield, MA to New Orleans, LA where he will be placed in a nursing rehab facility temporarily in order for him to regain his ability to walk. This is where Angie lives and has her family (her support system). Once he is able to, it is our goal to bring him back to Ventura and his beloved art studio/community.

Unfortunately, his insurance will not cover the costs for the medically assisted transportation necessary for his current condition. We have been looking into different options but at this point the lowest price we could find for this type of transportation is $8500.

Due to the recent blood clots and pulmonary embolisms, he is unable to fly and his condition requires that he is able to rest in a hospital type bed. The medical transportation service comes with a registered nurse and two drivers to ensure that the transportation is as safe and quick as possible. He can only sit up for about 20 minutes at a time and due to his inability to walk, he requires assistance for cleaning, etc.

We are desperately asking for your support to contribute as you can. My father was an artist living very frugally on a small budget and due to the stroke and other health issues, he has lost $12,000 in income which he would have earned in November/December.

We cannot afford this transport out of our own funds and are therefore turning to you to please help us.

Any amount raised above the cost for the medical transportation will be used for further treatments of my father’s condition, including home health care, a wheel chair and other necessary medical equipment, e.g shower rails, etc.

Everyone that knows my father knows him to be a charming and generous man who would always invite people into his home for an uplifting chat, a warm dinner or a hug on the street. In Ventura, the town where he lives for a large part of the year, he knows every homeless person by name and makes sure to give them a hug and a dollar, despite his very modest means.

It is at this time that we turn to you and the community of people around him to please come together to help him in this time of need.

We truly appreciate your support!
