Justice for Candy Middleton

As we continue to fight for Justice for Candy by pursuing animal cruelty charges as well as illegal search and seizure (opening the doors to our house without permission). I think that Jayna and I have decided to use ANY money leftover, after all the legal ramifications, to bring attention to making police officers go through animal interaction training ( especially with that of dogs). We also feel that dogs that are wrongfully killed by police officers should be treated as dependents and not property! This must be a crime!!! This will ensure that any donation will not only help with Justice for Candy, but will hopefully provide new laws and requirements known as Candy's Law (or likewise). This way any $ donated will only and always be used for Candy's Justice. Thank you all, God Bless, and Justice for Candy!!!

Jayna, Coleson, and I (among others) are here. It's been almost a year since Candy's tragic death, and ever since then we have vowed to change the status quo of cops shooting dogs without regard for non lethal methods. The problem of police needlessly killing our beloved pets must be solved. The bill HB 593 goes before committee tomorrow morning at 8:00. I'm set to testify. Pray that the wheels of change continue to turn.

As the Texas legislative session begins, Justice for Candy has made it's 1st financial contribution to assist in passing Canine Encounters Training for Texas Peace Officers (Candy's Law). $20,000 was donated to the THLN (via SPCA of Texas). The THLN is working diligently in passing these mandated training measures to ensure that tragedies like Candy's do not happen anymore. This leaves the Justice for Candy fund with an account balance of $8085.47. Thank you all for your continued support. Together we are the CHANGE!!! (Pictured is the official cashiers check, Cole and Jayna, and Cole and Shelby Bobosky of the THLN).

This is a big step. This case will set precedent in Texas. If a LEO shoots a dog unnecessarily and beyond their scope of employment, they can be charged, indicted, lose their law license, and possibly convicted. The agreement that prosecution and defense came to was that if Mr. Dooley would sign away his license to never be a peace officer ever again as well as publicly before the court admit his actions were his own fault. Only then would the prosecution drop the charges. If he ever tried to reapply for any type of peace officer license he will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. He will never again respond to anyone's house and do this to their family ever again. That lets me rest easier at night. God bless you all. Justice for Candy! Pass Candy's Law!!

This is the type training we are trying to make mandatory as part of the already established 40 hours of in-service training mandated by the state. This particular course is an already approved course, but it's not mandatory. Isn't it time to stop the needless shootings of our family members (and in Candy's case valuable employee or service dogs)?? We must get this passed this session! No excuses lawmakers!! More information coming soon on the proposed law!

I am so sorry for your loss. We have two heelers, one red, one blue. They both are as friendly as they could be. Unfortunately the neighbors kid did not respect our no trespassing signs, he through rocks, sticks and shot one of them with a bb gun. It was messy.. we had to go to court because our neighbors said Lucy was 'dangerous', she was provoked by this kid. By the way he admitted to the judge he did these things. The Sheriff's Dpt. was demanding we have her put down. The law nor the neighbors respected our fence or our privacy. She is still here with us, we chose to pay the insurance $1000.00 a year for her, but she is still by my side. We love her like one of our children. I believe ALL law enforcement should be informed / knowledgeable of these situations. sometimes all we have is our pets ;))

I am so sorry for your loss ! I am a volunteer at a Rescue in Massachusetts, and a few years back we had a 50th year Anniversary party for the facility. We had about 300 people there, one of which was a Boston Animal Lawyer. I asked him what would it take to make dogs not a piece of property in this country. His reply was that it would be like ending slavery , it would be that hard. I said if someone doesn't try, or start to try, it will never change. This has been my lifelong dream, to make dog's not a piece f property, but a valued family companion. France just passed the law making dogs and cats no longer property. I've always felt that if we could change that one thing, it would make anybody and everybody responsible , and accountable for any abuse, any violent act, whether your a stranger to the dog, or the owner. Maybe Candy can make this dream come true. All it takes is for people willing to be united across the US, and to stand up for change ! We can make change happen if we all stand together, and fight for what we believe in, so no other dog will ever have to suffer at the hands of a cop, or any other messed up person.

I kno how u feel also .our family pet JoJo was shot n killed inside my six foot wooden privacy fence that had all the beware of dog no trespassing etc. Rusk Tx police officer went in my yard for what reason I don't kno. Shot my Pitt mastive mix . Backed my dog into the shed and shot him because my dog growled. What was he supposed to do? He was protecting his yard . They took my dogs body and my puppy. I searched for four days till this officer pilled in my drive and wrote my husband a ticket for my dog not bein on a leash as he's boasting about "shooting your dog. " I went to PD dept the next day n was insulted again. These big men who get pleasure out of killing animals . The investigator all but told me my dog didn't matter n I didn't matter n there wasn't anything I could do. I miss my Jo so much n I kno he suffered and I didn't protect him. I cry now as I write this and it's been 4 yes n the men were correct there hasn't been anything I could do. Id like to do to them what was done to my Jo. Good luck and I hope u can make a difference

Cole, I'm so sorry this happened to Candy. I can only imagine how heartbroken you and your family must be. As a mom to two cattle pups (11 and 10 years old now), I can't even began to think of being without my two fur babies. Hearing that horrible video just made me cry my eyes out. My family's thoughts and wishes are with you and yours. I am so glad that horrible cop was fired and he deserves the same type of pain in his life. JUSTICE FOR CANDY!!! RIP, baby girl.

I am unable to donate, but wanted to add my thoughts and appreciation for what you are doing after your personal fight. I had an officer come to my house yesterday in response to a 911 cal I had placed because neighbors were fighting in the middle of the street....as soon as she heard footsteps Dixie began barking as she should..and as I opened the door the cop immediately reached for his gun!!!! Thank God I had another steel door between us because I know in my heart given the chance he would have reacted and pulled his gun! I was floored! On top of that he kept his hand on my doorknob like he wanted to just walk into my home...hand on his gun the whole time! If my roomie hadn't come right then...I can't say what might have happened. I will do everything I can to promote the change in laws you will be working towards!!

Just to be clear .. Obviously a lot has happened in a week . It has been very traumatic and my family have been through a lot. We are so comforted by all your support and prayers . One important note with regards to the donations. As far as I can tell we can leave that money in there for as long as we'd like. We are planning to file for. 501c3 non -profit status for any donations that are not utilized during the upcoming legal fights. The leftover funds ( no matter the amount) will ultimately be put into the 501c3. The 501c3 will be designed to work towards changes regarding how innocent dogs are treated by peace officers, and to help initiate training for these officers. This was explained earlier and we hope these will be called "Candy's Law(s)". We do NOT want this to happen to anyone else!! Justice for Candy!!

I am so sorry for your loss and I am so very sorry for the way she had to go. What cowardice and callousness, shooting a dog in the back and not enough guts to finish the job. We need to get all these trigger happy "peace officers" off the forces. They are everywhere and they had better take "To protect and to serve" off their vehicles since they have no idea what it means.
