Heartworm treatment for rescues

Donation protected
Most people are familiar with the story on these 2. But for those who aren’t, they were found buried at a construction site and the white one has badly torn up paws from what looks to be as if he was drug behind a car. The padding on the bottom of his paws are almost all gone, he’s missing so many tails that were ripped out and the tops of his feet are all torn up. The lady who seen this happen took them and was only to keep them for a day or 2 due to her dog and I couldn’t let them go to a shelter and be put down. My husband and I took them in and have had them for a little over a week, I took them to the vet today for a visit and got some really bad news. The brown one has a mass on his chest, and the both of them have heart worms really bad and the white one has a heart murmur. Heart worm treatment is a 3 month treatment. She started them on 30 days of medicine today and then in 30 days I have to take them back and they have to have 2 injections and stay over night and then do another 30 days of medicine and then go back and have 1 injection done then do another 30 days of meds and go back and have an exam done to make sure they got it all out and then be on heartworm medicine the rest of their lives. Treatment is 6-800 per dog depending on if the 3 months is enough time to get rid of them or if they have to have treatment longer then 3 months. They had their rabies vaccine today but due to all of the other complications the vet chose to hold off on other vaccines at the moment.  Taking them in out of random and not knowing what was wrong with them was a big risk to take but my husband and I couldn’t let them go either to a shelter or to someone who wouldn’t treat them good and not get them the help they desperately need. If you don’t want to donate through here that’s understandable, the vet that they go to is Countryside Veterinary Hospital in Gallatin Tn and the phone number is [phone redacted] and you can add it to my account under Shawna Cone. Either way is a blessing for us to get these boys the treatment they need to live the rest of their lives healthily. God bless all of you and even if you can’t donate at all thank you for reading their story!
