In April, our car broke down. The battery would not hold a charge. My instincts said it was the alternator. However, I was persuaded to get a new battery. This solved the problem. However, on the Fourth of July, the car broke down again. I had to walk several miles home in 95 degree heat carrying groceries. Same scenario. We were able to get it home a few days later, but had to have it jumped several times during the trip.
What does this have to do with medical? This car provides transportation for many medical treatments in and out of state.
In 1996 I was diagnosed with a rare disease called Wegener's Granulomatosis. It is a very chronic disease which has affected every part of my body. My main complaints is lungs and sinuses. However, it has caused eye damage (I can barely see out of my right eye), and my nose has collapsed.
In the weeks between getting the car fixed in April and now, I have been hospitalized out of town twice, have had to travel to Michigan for treatments (about a 3-hour trip, one way), and have undergone four chemotherapy treatments. I am still very weak and my cough has not gotten any better. If I have to go to the hospital again (which is always a possibility, as my kidneys are involved, and my lungs are extremely damaged) we would not be able to get there, or home again. We have had to cancel doctor visits due to this.
We need to get the car fixed correctly. I do believe it is the alternator, or at worse, the computer. We cannot get a new one since our credit is atrocious due to medical debt. We live on Social Security Disability which barely gets us through the month. We have no savings whatsoever.
Please help us get this fixed so I can get my treatments.
We live in a small rural area. There is NO public transit, no cabs, and not even Uber! We can't even go grocery shopping, as this is our only car.

(Three years ago the car was sideswiped by a semi, which is why the side is damaged. We are not looking to get that fixed, just to make it run again.)
