Cecilia Emlynn Anderson came into this world five weeks early after an emergency C-section due to a detached placenta. This caused CeCe's blood and oxygen supply to be temporarily cut off. On Saturday, March 30th, the medical team pulled CeCe out at 7:26am to find that she was not breathing. They quickly revived her and took her to the NICU.
My sister, Heather, lost a lot of blood during this process and underwent two surgeries in one day. She is now stable and slowly recovering at the hospital. CeCe, however, is in critical condition. Due to the lack of oxygen and blood, she has both HIE (Hypoxic-Ischemic Encephalopathy) and pulmonary hypertension. She is currently being treated in the NICU by way of therapeutic hypothermia in an effort to prevent permanent brain damage and developmental delays. Doctors are unsure how long CeCe will need to be in the NICU at this point or if further treatment will be necessary; we are simply taking things day by day. So far, CeCe is proving herself to be a fighter and is showing small signs of improvement.
The cost of both the hospital stay and procedures both mom and baby are undergoing are going to be a huge burden on this young family. We are asking friends and family to help where they can to alleviate these expenses so Heather and Jim can focus on both Heather and CeCe's recovery. Know that no donation is too small. If monetary aid is not an option, please consider other ways you can help such as bringing meals to the family when they make it back home, sending your words of encouragement and love, or simply just being there so that they may feel your love and support.
