Diaspora Gives Back

Welcome to the 'Diaspora Gives Back' campaign page.

Over the years we have witnessed countless atrocities devastate the African continent and the Caribbean islands, some of the most recent tragedies being Hurricane Irma and the mudslides in Sierra Leone. The hurricane has caused immeasurable damage to countless Caribbean islands and the mudslide has sadly killed an estimated 1000 people - we must take action.

The mobilisation of the African-Caribbean diaspora, through societies, students' unions, and external organisations we have worked so hard to set up, are yet to efficiently harness the power and political influence we have as a collective within the UK, in a way that has a direct impact to our family overseas. This, by necessity, is why our initiative the ‘Diaspora Gives Back’, a campaign created by university students in the UK, exists. As unfortunate as these circumstances are, these recent events have provided us - a team of young people who saw the importance of implementing a much needed infrastructure.

Hence, we will be holding both an online and offline campaign dedicated to raising funds for those affected by these tragedies.  We will be holding a final fundraising show on the 11th of November in collaboration with guest artists, the overall campaign target is £30,000. All proceeds made on the night will be added directly to the campaign fund, and will be sent to the following trusted charities and government bodies working tirelessly on the ground:

Ascension Trust, (Antigua & Barbuda)
Dominica High Commission, (Dominica)
Street Child UK, (Sierra Leone)
Mama Pikin (Sierra Leone)

These charitable donations will be used in a number of ways from rebuilding infrastructure and landscape to providing aid along with social and economic support to help rehabilitate our mourning siblings.
