Kahuku High School Gym

$21,890 of $50,000 goal

Raised by 322 people in 52 months

Im raising funds to buy some much needed new equipment for our school weight room.  Most of our equipment is over 20 years old, rusted and worn out. My mission is to get rid of the older, dangerous equipment and replace it with newer and safer equipment. 80% of the student body at Kahuku participate in some type of sport. Its only right that we give them the best and safest tools possible for them to train and help them succeed. I challenge all Kahuku alumni to donate at least $5. Money will go towards brand new equipment, shipping and renovation of the weight room. Mahalo for your support of our kids and school. -Tanoai

We received the first order of equipment! It consisted of essentials that the kids can use right now. Bumper plates, barbells, collars, and we have 2 full sets of dumbbells (5-75lbs)and racks that will be here in two weeks.
We still have money in the fund and will continue to take donations so we can complete the weight room makeover. Thank you to all who have donated to help make this huge blessing possible. The kids are so grateful for your generosity. We don't have much but we have each other!

We so are blessed to have hooked up with a brand new local company called HELE Fitness. They are working with the school and I to build the new training facility for our student athletes. They are offering free training and technique clinics for our kids and coaches as well!
Below is the first order I put in for the stuff we need and can use right now. We'll be ordering more stuff as we move along, such as infinity racks, rubber flooring, benches, prowler sleds and power platforms. This route will be more economical and practical than waiting for the $180K we'd need to order the fancy custom package we originally planned for.
Please see the itemized order form, final invoice and check made out to HELE Fitness from our 501c3 Kahuku Alumni Association account I transferred the GoFundMe account funds to. Mahalo for all your continued support. We're finally getting this done!! Go Big Red!!

Aloha everyone, I just wanted you all to know that I've transferred the money we have so far from this GoFundMe account into the 501C3 Kahuku Alumni Association account so I wouldn't be responsible for any taxes on it. As you can see below, $18,159.81 is the total so far after GoFundMe took their service % out. I have made the first purchase for some gym for equipment that the kids need and an use right now( bumper plates, barbells, dumbells, and bands) I'll include photos of the invoice for this first order in an update right after this. I just wanted to post the paper trail of funds to provide as much transparency as possible. You are all a part of this and we will keep you updated on every move we make. FYI, We are still taking donations for more equipment through this GoFundMe site so please donate and share to help us get everything the kids need. Mahalo,-Tanoai

Ok, so I take back what I said about the NFL coming in and paying for our weight room project to be done by this Pro-Bowl....well, actually they took it back. I along with many other people who attended a meeting back in May 2015 were told the NFL would love to take over this project for us. The NFL helped to build Kapoleis turf field last time they were here since they were the host town school. We'll now we're the host town school and in the meeting they said they wanted to give something back. They even came out and took a tour of the facility and had a lot of correspondence with Walter Santiago regarding specifics such as renovation plans and estimimates. Then silence.
The school was only informed in mid Dec. that the NFL wouldn't be doing the weight room for us. Now they're saying that they are willing to help via the NFL match grant where an NFL player who is alumni of Kahuku can donate up to $5K and the NFL will match it.
First of all, that's not what they told us back in May 2015 and that's not how Kapolei aquired their new football field. Plus that grant is offered to all schools (if they have NFL alumni), so it's not really doing anything special for us.
So here we are 8 months later back to square one. The thing that really upsets me is that if they just told us they're not gonna do it for us I could have continued pushing to raise money for it. We missed out on 8 months of fundraising because of their coyness.
So what now? Well If everyone who this reaches can donate at least $5 that would help us make up for those lost 8 months.
We will get this done for our student athletes one way or another. It's just too bad the NFL won't be the one to leave their legacy behind for these kids.

After living in Hau`ula for awhile & picking up the Pastors kids from school during football season. I came to love this area. Kahalu`u to Hakipu`u is where I became known as "Da Welda" welding for the love of welding & helping to build a piggery for the "Pakele `Ohana." The "Chee `Ohana" planted the seeds of love for Hau`ula. I'm disappointed that the NFL with near limitless fund can not even fix the weight room as promised... I TWEETED this...see what happens...I got a lotta followers...

Thanks for taking charge and doing what is needed to make this happen. Very upsetting that the NFL has reneged on their initial agreement especially because of the amount of NFL alumni that have come out of our Pride of the Northshore. However, our kids and the community will persevere. I will make a donation. Mahalo Kahealani Kaina
