Chopper's Emergency Transfusions

WHO ARE WE?
We are Chopper's mommas, Bethany & Kelly. Chopper is the single sweetest dog you've ever met! His smile melts our hearts, and he's a great little cuddler!! After multiple friends have suggested this, we have decided to create this page to help with Chopper's unexpected medical bills.

WHAT HAPPENED TO CHOPPER?
After brightening our lives for years, we noticed a new mole on his tummy this fall. We were advised to get it removed to be safe. 5 days after surgery, our brave rescue dog became very suddenly ill, losing all color in his skin, and wouldn't eat or barely walk. Chopper's tail NEVER stops wagging , so we knew it was serious! He was taken back to our vet, where we determined he has Auto-Immune Hemolytic Anemia. His red blood cell counts were at 46% before surgery, and dropped to 12%, which is extremely low. He was rushed to the emergency room at Indy Vet to receive a blood transfusion.

Chopper has been in the hospital since Tuesday, November 3rd, and has received 3 blood transfusions so far. His count was up to 19%, but should be more like 30. We are spending countless hours with him there, and he's receiving excellent care, but the bills are very expensive, and we aren't sure how many more days he may need to be there before he's able to come home.

WHAT HAPPENS NEXT?
Please send positive energy Chopper's way. We just aren't ready to say goodbye to this little guy yet! His energy is starting to come back, his tail is wagging again, and we just need more time for his body to recover. Rather than us setting a dollar amount and calling it quits, we have decided to accept offers to help. Please only give if you can truly afford to. Often those with the least end up giving the most, and we don't want our burden to cause hardships for anybody else.

WILL HE RECOVER?
After his blood cell counts recover, Chopper will be on medications for the next 6 months, with monthly blood tests to monitor his condition. Recover is possible, and 2/3 of dogs do recover from this. We hope to have Chopper's smile in our lives for at least another 4-6 years!! He's the best big brother a pup could ever wish for!

YOUR KINDNESS
Thank you from the bottom of our aching hearts for sending love Chopper's way!!! The stress of not knowing if we might lose our baby boy has been taking it's toll, and we are spending more time losing money than making it right now. While we are able to put his expenses on credit cards, a little financial relief would definitely help us to extend Chopper's care, instead of making that dreaded decision every pet owner fears. He just has too much joy left to give to this world, and it's not his time to go yet!

If we end up with any excess donations beyond what we need for Chopper's growing medical bills, we will be donating it back to Casa del Toro , the pit bull rescue group that brought our other dog, Zaha, into Chopper's life on his birthday last year.

If you'd rather, you can call Indy Vet directly and donate towards Chopper Schultz' bills. Their number is (317) [phone redacted]. They have provided absolutely wonderful care for our little guy, and we are incredibly grateful for all their support as well.
