Help 74 catch up her property taxes

Donation protected

Alright supportive friends. You are awesome. You met the original goal in less than 24 hours. So you deserve an update. I sat with her for 2 hours yesterday to review finances and the best way to make sure she is going to be OK from this point forward. Because Jay from Rol Heating and Air is providing such an amazing furnace, not only should her heating bills cut nearly in half, but she will get a $400 high efficiency rebate which will take care of the remaining behind.

I won't go into the finances and we are working to still do what we can to maintain as much privacy as possible while still guiding helps. And she, with tears in her eyes, wanted to say thank you to you all.

But with that, we've found there is a little more needed. The money raised will be used to catch up which she is very close....except....property taxes. This house has long been paid for but I personally have concerns that all this work will be for nothing. She' lived in this house for 52 years and living on modest income from SS and her husbands limited pension. He passed away 22 years ago from brain cancer.

So this and any further money will be used to work to catch up her property taxes. If you have donated THANK YOU!!!!! If you were thinking about it, maybe this will motivate. Maybe you can consider share again highlighting the new focus. No matter what, Sandy says thank you to you all.

****PLEASE SEE THE LATEST UPDATE****

So some of you may have noticed a little story I shared. Today while out snowblowing I noticed a woman at the door of my 74 year old neighbor. This lady had a vest on and I looked in the street and saw it was Centerpoint Energy vehicle. At the same time another neighbor walked over to see what was going on (we watch over our neighborhood, especially her since she lives alone and has health problems.)

I call over to the utility worker and explain that it is an elderly womany there who is suffering from some health issues so she may need to be patient for her to get to the door.  She lightly knocks again and we tell her she might need to be louder too. And if she doesn't respond, then the neighbor might be at physical therapy. I walked closer and explained that the occupant is 85 and has has some heart issues and that she has been in and out of the hospital. I was suspicious but thought no way would they cut her utilities in early January in Minnesota. Boy was I wrong!

The utility lady gave a wierd eye roll and sigh. Maybe it was out of guilt, maybe annoyance that we were asking. Who knows. Then she grabs a wrench from her pocket and starts walking to the meter which is near me. I ask a couple of times "you're not going to cut her gas are you?" The third time I reminded her that there was an elderly occupant living there who has serious health issues.  I know she was "just doing her job" but the company could have handled this better and she could have taken a little more time with the address. As you may have seen in my post, the utility worker cut the gas. The other neighbor and I walked to the door to make sure the she knew about it....and she was sitting right by the door and didn't hear the worker!!!

You will say there is a "Cold Weather Rule" well that changed. Its no longer a "RULE" its a program you have to sign up for every year.  She's a proud woman who hates people helping her. We banded together as neighbors and got her some heaters and fans to circulate. Tonight she shared that she was more behind than that one payment.  Its less than $500. I was encouraged over and over and over to do a gofundme. So here we are.  Let's help this woman....lets show Centerpoint energy what love and care for our elderly is.  Lets see if we can't raise money, not only for this bill but for future winter bills and get her a kick start on the bills.

$5, $10, $20, $50, $100 you decide.

Who am I? A retired police officer just looking out for my neighbors.  ALL money of course would go to her.
