On the night of November 1, 2018, and into the early morning of November 2, a fire broke out at 1331 Alabama Ave SE, one of the three buildings that make up the Congress Heights properties represented by the Alabama Ave/13th Street Tenant Coalition.
We are urgently requesting donations to help tenants at Congress Heights to rebuild the damage and replace some of the many belongings that were damaged and lost in this tragic fire.
Tenants at these properties have been fighting tenaciously for years against slumlords and government officials, not only for the right to live in decent housing, but to implement a plan, worked out with a developer they chose, that could bring 200 units of affordable housing to an area marked for major gentrification.
The funds you donate here will help the tenant coalition through these tough times as they attempt to recover what was lost and maintain their forward momentum. Please, help with as much as you can.
