What happened:
Daisy had a pontine hemorrhage: a serious stroke caused by bleeding inside of the brain stem. The doctors weren’t able to operate on the hemorrhage, because it would have killed her if they tried. The doctors did not think that she would survive.
As it is now:
Daisy has stabilized and is currently in ACU for acute care. She has still does not have much ability to use or feel the limbs on her left side, but has shown some improvement since entering the hospital. Her throat muscles have also been affected, making swallowing and speaking very difficult. Because she cannot swallow, phlegm builds up, and she has a lot of difficulty eating. Currently this is the most dangerous situation, as there is a high chance of her choking. The option to have a feeding tube going directly to her stomach to provide nutrients have been brought up, and we believe this might be the best course. The doctor told us the operation would take place on Wednesday at the soonest, but that it would be likely it will be on Thursday or Friday.
Location and Dates:
Daisy and Wendell (husband) were in Waimea Kauai visiting Ellie (daughter) and her three children when the stroke happened. She was accepted into Wilcox hospital on 01/24/2019. Her sons, Lee and Jonnie, arrived 01/25/2019.
Purpose:
This go-fund-me page is meant for the friends and family of Daisy who have expressed the wish to donate towards her care and the wellbeing of her family members who are here to support her through her recovery.
