Hello, my name is Marilyn Mitchell and a proud owner of an Irish Setter. Izzie is the love of my life, goes almost everywhere with me, and is almost the perfect dog. I couldn’t ask for a more loving, well behaved and loyal companion. I can’t imagine life without her.
I adopted Izzie as a retired show dog when she was 5 years old. She came with many health issues including a severe ear infection. She was very shy and poorly socialized. We were both patient with each other, and developed a strong bond.
She is now 8 ½ and a few months ago, I noticed she was having trouble moving and didn’t even want to go out on our trail walks in the woods. Our 2-3 hour hikes have now dropped 10-15 minute walks. After changing vets, the new X-rays showed the problem was much worse than we anticipated. Izzie has severe hip dysplasia and arthritis of the spine. Her pain will continue to worsen. There is no ball where the ball joint should be. Nothing but a total hip replacement can rectify this situation.
We have found a specialist who can perform the surgery, which will cost approximately $7,000. I am already paying for the dental work completed a month ago costing of $1,700. She is currently in Physical Therapy and will need another 6+ sessions on completion of the surgery. I am a pet sitter and simply don’t make that kind of money, I’m barely making ends meet as it is. Izzie comes first in my life and I have learned to do without unnecessary spending. She is on expensive medication and supplements to help with her pain, but it’s not enough.
Please help with Izzie’s surgery; she is the sweetest girl, and my best friend. I can’t bear the alternative.
