Emergency expenses for Blake's medical journey

Donation protected
⭐ 2nd time in intensive care in as many months ⭐ Blake was rushed back to hospital on Saturday morning after a rubbish night on Friday, fortunately we were quick to respond and got him medical attention accordingly. He spent 1 hour 30 in Resuscitation and the decision was made to take him round to pediatric ward where he would receive support via CPAP machine and monitored for half an hour. Blake responded well in the 1st 15 minutes of this but quickly deteriorated thereafter. Blake became unconscious in hospital there and then and was struggling to be revived so the decision was made to have him put into an induced coma when it became medically safe to do so! Doctors and aneasthatists fought for our family and for blake for over an hour to stabilise him and get some kind of movement in response to their efforts. fortunately blake showed a sign of response and he was immediately put to sleep and a drug to paralyze him was used so that they could intubate. We got the news that blake was heading back for Edinburgh when the retrieval team arrived so we headed up and arrived on Saturday evening via ambulance with Blake stable in the coma. Upon arrival and the initial handover to Edinburgh it took a lot longer than expected and it was unsafe to have blake put over into the care of Edinburgh immediately. eventually we got there just before 9pm and blake was now secure in the intensive care unit up there. From there initial and routine checks started to take place and sent off to the lab, we had a few nervy moments over the next 48hrs leading into Tuesday. We started to get results back from the lab and it was showing blake had got metapneumovirus and neisseria subflava two harsh strains of bacterial and viral infections that were causing damage to blakes lungs as they were attacking exactly the same place as when he fell critical in December and that these illnesses can have some nasty outcomes especially on young children if not caught early. Blake received physio daily to help free the crap from his lungs and constant secretions in the hope to clear his chest and help him breathe again. Doctors had thought that Saturday was his peak day and thats why he needed so much attention. They started to reduce levels and waited for blake to respond and start to come back round but keeping him on a comfortable level. Further examinations were then taken and more chest Xrays were taken and it became evident that things looked to be going downhill instead of forward for blake as it had spread all over his chest. Wednesday night nurses took the decision to try blake on his stomach to help move the secretions accordingly and stop unnecessary build up of fluids he was being pumped with. he responded terribly to this and needed over 90% help via the conventional ventilator so he was placed back over on his back. Things started to settle out into yesterday morning 5th of February but blake still requiring over 70% support. Once doctors had been in and assesed blakes condition the decision was made that he would have to go onto a new ventilator which is called a High Flow Oscillatory ventilation system. This effectively keeps the lungs open permanently by pumping waves into his chest creating a shaking pattern which makes small tidal volumes to keep the lungs stimulated. Blake can't do the usual breathing pattern and his chest will not rise or fall accordingly to breathing instead his chest will continuously shake and excess air will be bled from a seperate tube. The new ventilator is pumping volumes round his chest more than 4 times his average so you can imagine how vigorous this procedure is. Blake has started to respond to this and numbers are slowly balancing out but we are still a very long way from the 12th round of this fight and unfortunately it could go either way! please check our updates or Facebook statuses for progression and spread the word by sharing our story with friends and family to show your support for Blake
