Feathers Fund in Memory of Charlie

Marisa Feathers  SUMMERVILLE, SC
On January 29, 2017, Charlie Feathers Jr lost his 3 year battle with congestive heart failure.
He left behind his wife of 30 years, 5 children, 3 grandchildren and an unborn grandchild.
Charlie's life was about family. Even after disability took away his ability to work, he found ways to continue to provide while the rest of us worked toward financial independence.
I hate to admit how much we still relied on his SSI income to keep the lights on and the bills paid... This last year seemed to contain one blow after another.
As a family, we're determined to stand together but must ask for help to pay bills, feed the 6 of us who live in the family home and begin the process of building a life without our hero and heart.
If you can help support us, we'd like to give back. Future updates will include items we would like to make for those who contribute to choose from... There's knitting, crochet, sewing, sculpting, and a t-shirt project to choose from. We do not want to have hands out without also giving in return.
Charlie's legacy is one of generosity, love and humor. We hope to honor him by carrying on in the same manner.

Hey everyone,
Thanks to current support and some help from loved ones apart from pledges here, we've got most of the bills for this month covered. I can't tell you how grateful we are to have this weight lifted some.
<p>
We've been approved for 3 months of food stamps and with access to local food banks should have food mostly covered while we work on getting everyone in the house employed.
I'm cleared for Uber again and plan to hit the road Friday night and get back into the driving routine.
With all that, we're still $1,800 a month short for what we'll need and it will likely take the next 2 months to get everyone bringing in some income.
Becka, Rachel & I all work part-time. With Uber & Lyft, I have 2 jobs. Dan & John are both looking for part-time work that will work schedule - wise with one car for all of us.
Charlie did have life insurance that he took out 29 years ago. We have what's needed to file the claim but as the policy has been paying for itself for several years, I don't know yet how much there is. Either way, I'm certain we'll be able to stand on our own once that comes through. I've asked Krys to manage the finances at that time to insure maximum stability and use of funds.
In the meantime, thank you for all off your support. The need is still there though perhaps not as dire as even a week ago.
Anything you can spare is a help and we'd like to make something for everyone who has donated. I'll be getting with you all in the next week or so to get your details so we can offer a more personal thank you.
I think Charlie would be proud of us...

Honestly not sure what to put here for updates... Hoping transparency (pathetic though it may sound) is enough. We're 10% to the goal which is a huge thing. We're encouraged there's been such support already.
We have several hundred dollars in bills due this week. Because Charlie passed in January, the SSDI deposit that was made on the 3rd had to be returned. We're not touching it for fear of later penalties.
I'm filing my taxes. The income is low enough that we should get back most of what I paid in but it's weeks away from return.
I'm not driving ride share right now. There's no way I've got it in me to deal with strangers and small talk. I did try to get out there but it didn't go well. FedEx I can do. It's perfectly okay to do your job and not talk there.
Becka, Rachel & I are combining incomes which has allowed for payment of some bills but we're further behind than I'd known.
We should have help getting Dan & John appropriate clothes for the funeral & should be able to arrange for things like a haircut (John has yet to find someone he's comfortable enough to communicate with in that area) and other incidentals.
What's causing stress is things like power, car insurance, car payment, etc...
Enough rambling... thank you for all you're doing. Please continue to share this campaign. We can stay on our feet... We just need a boost to get up there.

This was an old campaign set up to help our family hold onto Feathers land. It's where Charlie and I both wanted to live out our lives. We're grateful he was able to spend his last years here.
The app won't let me delete the old campaign so I'm updating it for our current need.
Please read the description and share to those you feel might be able to help as we deal with this loss.
Thank you,
Marisa
