Youth Refugee Soccer Club (SA Int'l SC)

$1,610 of $11,400 goal

San Antonio hosts a diverse population of refugee families from countries such as Haiti, Egypt, Iran, Honduras, Iraq, Thailand and Nepal (to name a few). Because of their situation, many of the children from these families are unable to participate in extracurricular activities. While English may be their second (or third, or fourth) language, we have found that soccer is an international language. SA International seeks to provide an opportunity for these kids to be involved in a team sport. Through soccer, SA International can set these children on the path toward living the American Dream.

As a non-profit organization, SA International needs your help to reach these at-risk youth and give them an opportunity to become a part of something bigger. Through your donations SA International can outfit these kids with all the equipment they need to become the next big soccer star. At SA International's Soccer Blast in January, we received donations of cleats, shin guards and socks, but not enough to provide these items for every child interested in joining the soccer club.

We need cleats, uniforms, balls, cones, mesh bags, pinnies, shin guards, socks, pop-up goals and first aid kits. We currently have 107 children signed up for SA International Soccer Club. Because of their limited resources, these children's families cannot purchase the equipment these kids need to particpate. Your donation will go 100% toward purchasing the necessary equipment for every child who wants to be part of this soccer club.

The players were excited because we played out of town (about 45 minutes away from San Antonio - but hey, it was out of town). Trying to get them to take a group photo was impossible - ..... The other team beat us in the first half (and overall), but we took the second half and did not allow them to score anymore. Yay us!!!

Well our one team unfortunately lost 3-0. As you can tell by the picture, there's a bit of difference in the players. Our team is the bright yellow team (the blue shirt is the opposing teams goalie).

This team is our U16 co-ed team (our players range in age from 11-15).

Although we didn't win, we gave it our best!!! Way to go SA International.

(sorry the picture came out sideways, I can't get it to turn)

Yesterday was a tough day for all three teams. As I mentioned our co-ed lost 2 -1 (against an all boys team)

Our all boys team lost 3 - 1

And our newest team managed to tie 2-2 - yay!!!

Total we have almost sixty players now - that is awesome and exciting!!!
