Let's Help Carla!

We would like to ask anyone who can to donate what they can to assist Carla with living, medical and insurance costs until she is able to get back on her feet. We currently do not know how long it will be before she is able to work again and if she will have a job to go back to.
On March 20 Carla Wheeler was diagnosed with the flu and out of work for a week, then on March 27 the doctor diagnosed her with tonsillitis. On April 8 Carla was admitted into Raulerson Hospital so sick she was barely coherent. On April 17 Carla was transferred from Raulerson Hospital to St Lucie Medical Center as Raulerson was unable to diagnose what was wrong and she was no better. After a battery of tests a rheumatologist diagnosed Carla with Stills Disease and Fibromyalgia and advised that she probably has been suffering from this for 5-6 years and it has gone untreated. He believes an infection triggered this reaction and discharged her from the hospital on May 1.
Stills is a rare type of inflammatory disorder that affects the entire body mainly the joints and internal organs. Fibromyalgia adds muscle pain, fatigue and affects the memory. Unfortunately there is not a one size fits all prescription for these diseases and they are prescribing a mix of medications in varying dosages until they find the right combination to help control the symptoms of the diseases. Carla is currently having to use a walker or a wheel chair to get around and has not been released to drive or go back to work.
Due to the fact that it has taken so long to diagnose and they still do not have an effective treatment plan Carla has been out of work Since March 20. She has used all of her pto and sick time and she is not receiving an income from her work. Most recently, the company she works for is now billing her for her insurance since she has no “work Hours” to pull it from.
In addition, Carla has been unable to assist her daughter Vicki during the last months of her senior year and Vicki has been accepted into college in Georgia. For anyone who has had a child graduate and attend college you know what costs are involved.
I have been friends with Carla for 16 years. In that time I have watched her volunteer her time to anyone who asked for her assistance. Including the Clewiston Elks Lodge, The Clewiston Lyons Club, CHS Project Graduation, CHS Cheerleading, Clewiston 4-H, CHS FFA and numerous other organizations and individuals who needed help. Carla has decorated, taken pictures, worked serving food, sold tickets and anything else that was asked of her.
It would be a wonderful thing if our community gave back a portion of what she has given us through the years and supported her in her time of need. Thank You.
