Patrick's Mission

Donation protected

The Mar Thoma Southwest RAC has decided to start a project in the Native American Mission field at McGee Chapel in Broken Bow, Oklahoma as a tribute to Patrick M. Oommen, a member of St. Paul's MTC, Dallas who died in a car accident on June 4, 2013 while undertaking the mission trip at Camp Folsom. The facility to be built is a hall with separate dorm style living arrangements for about 20-25 boys and girls undertaking various mission projects among Native Americans and also to be used by the children of Native Americans. The project is to be built by the Southwest RAC under the patronage of Diocesan Council with an area of about 1,500 to 2,000 sq. ft. at a cost of about $200,000-$225,000. Mar Thoma Southwest RAC subcommittee's tried to give people options and make it simple. Please share and donate, any amount will help us achieve our goal.

WHO IS PATRICK?

Patrick Cherian Oommen Maruthmmotil was born in Coimbatore, India as the only child of Mr. Cherian and Jessy Oommen.   Patrick spent his formative years in Al Ain, United Arab Emirates. In 2004, Patrick moved to Dallas to complete his undergraduate and Master's degree in Electrical Engineering at the University of Texas at Dallas.

As a teenager, Patrick stumbled onto a love for music when he discovered his mother's guitar and collection of music lesson books. He quickly taught himself how to play the guitar and it soon became inextricably tied to his identity. Indeed, it was a rare sight to see Patrick without his guitar in tow. Patrick had a heart that bled for others.

Whether tutoring students, leading praise and worship, mentoring youths, Patrick poured out his life to build others up.  Indeed, his life’s mission was invested in people– those who were hurting, broken, struggling– because he knew that giving himself to Kingdom work would yield the greatest return.

One of Patrick’s greatest passions was local mission work.  Every summer, he would travel to Oklahoma to faithfully serve Choctaw Youths at Camp Folsom.

He led worship, he taught children, he mentored, he built relationships, but most importantly, he modeled Christ’s love to “the least of these.”

On June 4, 2013, at the age of 26, Patrick lost his life in a car accident during a mission trip at Camp Folsom.  Remarkably, he died doing what he loved –

WHAT IS PATRICK’S MISSION?
The importance of Patrick’s Mission is multi-faceted:

-  To honor Patrick’s commitment and to further the legacy of this young man who generously gave his time, talents, and resources to advance the Kingdom of God;

-  To reaffirm the Mar Thoma Church’s commitment to serving the Native American population in Oklahoma;

-  To continue building on the relationships and work that Patrick began with Choctaw youth.

A VISION FOR THE FUTURE
Patrick’s Mission does not end with construction of a facility- in fact it is only the first step. During and after construction, we hope to encourage Youths to be engaged with the Choctaw Native American Mission Field on a regular basis. Beyond construction, we look to
provide underprivileged students with scholarships to help them further education.

We hope to live the motto "Lighted to Lighten", and continue the passion and commitment that Patrick had while serving people. We hope to encourage each other emotionally, spiritually and academically, so that we can together glorify God in our actions.
