Classroom Supplies

Donation protected
Hello,

I would first like to thank you for taking the time to read my campaign story.

I am requesting funds to help purchase decorations and supplies for my  Jr. High (middle school) classroom.

I am a first year teacher fresh out of University and have next to no items for my classroom. Unfortunately all decorations and those extra items either come from my own pocket or kind lending of materials from colleagues.

The main reason I am doing this is first and foremost for my students. The school I work at is in a rural community in Alberta, Canada. The students at my school are the most wonderful kids I have ever met and are deserving to be in a comfortable and inviting environment.

I teach a total of 29 students split into two classes. Even though we have small numbers the students work very hard to help the community. This year they have raised funding and given donations for a charity in Edmonton that takes in homeless pregnant women and young mothers who have just given birth with nowher to go. Our school is the smallest in the district (160 students total) but have managed to raise more money and donations for the charity  than any other school -the largest boasting 1300 students.

Last year they were able to raise enough money for an African community to purchase a water pump. This means the people of the community no longer needed to walk 20 km (12.5 miles) to obtain this necessity.

These students are the most hard working and dedicated group of individuals I have ever met. They are respectful and helpful and deserve nothing but the very best.

So how will your kind donation be utilized?

1) I hope to revamp my decorations. The ones you see in the photo are borrowed from one of my colleagues. The classroom is bleak and colourless. I hope to purchase new and exciting decorations to bring life into the room.

2) I want to give the students a safe and comfortable space. You see in the photo I have a red and green couch I got for free from a coworker. I hope to purchase a slip cover for it (as I find the print outdated) and place a bookshelf next to it. It will give the students a comfortable place to sit and talk or read. I would also like to have a coffee table, plants, a lamp and a rug to give it a more homey atmosphere so the students feel comfortable.

3) Books! After purchasing a bookshelf I would like to fill the shelf with some young adult novels for my students to read.

4) Supplies. Many students come from families that do not have the funding to supply their child with adequate school supplies. I would like to purchase extra supplies I can loan to students when they are in need. Funding will go towards paper, calculators, pens/pencils, clipboards, erasers, whiteout etc.

5) Snacks. I would like to also use campaign funding to have extra snacks for students in need. A lot of the time students do not have enough in their lunch and I give them a portion of my own lunch so they do not go hungry. I would like to have a big box of granola bars for those students who aren't getting enough to eat everyday.

Thank you for taking the time to read my campaign. Any amount of donation would greatly make a difference in the lives of my students. For some school is the only happy/ safe space they have so I would like to make it the most inviting space possible. They are the most well deserving groups of individuals you will ever come across and I hope you can help out.

Thank you again.
