Hey everyone!

Nicole Dennion is one amazing young woman and a sophomore forward on our Elon University women's soccer team. Around Elon, she goes by "Colie" but many of you probably know her as the 2013 Southern Conference Women's Soccer Player-of-the-Year! In mid-February, Colie noticed a small bump on the right side of her rib cage. This led her to the hospital for X-rays, a CAT scan that revealed a tumor, and ultimately a biopsy that officially diagnosed a cancer called Ewing's Sarcoma. Ewing's Sarcoma is a cancer of the bone, or soft tissue surrounding the bone, that typically is found in children and young adults. However, those of us that REALLY KNOW Colie are aware that cancer actually just caught a real bad case of Jersey redhead called NICOLE DENNION!

The last few weeks have been a whirlwind for Colie and her mother Sharon. She is in the process of withdrawing from her classes and moving back to New Jersey where she will receive treatment at the Fox Chase Cancer center in Philadelphia (about 45 minutes from her home). Nicole is just beginning her journey and we have set up this account to offset the numerous costs that are going to be associated with her relocation, living expenses, care, and travel. We all can't wait to see Colie back in uniform and out on the field again in the future. Thanks so much for your support of "Kickin' It With Colie!"

We are terribly sad to share this news with everyone. On the morning of Saturday, November 5th, Nicole passed away at home while surrounded by her loved ones. She was a very special young woman to all of us. From the bottom of our hearts, we cannot thank everyone enough for the love and support you gave Nicole over these past two and a half years. Each and every day, your kind words and actions helped to make things better for Nicole and her family. We are all so incredibly lucky to have had Nicole in our lives.

There will be a viewing this Thursday, November 10th 2016, from 6-9pm at Bordentown Home for Funerals (40 Crosswicks St, Bordentown, NJ 08505). The funeral will take place the following morning on Friday, time TBA, at St. Mary's Church (45 Crosswicks St, Bordentown, NJ 08505), located across the street from Bordentown Home for Funerals. As soon as we have a confirmation on the time we will update our "Kickin' It With Colie" page.

We love you so much Colie! - Elon Women's Soccer

Update 9

Hello "Kickin' It With Colie" supporters,

It is time for some important news and an update on Colie. A lot has happened in the last few weeks since our last update. After much research and persistence by Colie, she has secured herself a spot in a clinical trial, conducted by the Sarcoma specialists group Sloan Kettering, to be conducted at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston. The clinical trial will start ASAP. As a part of this trial, Colie will take two oral medications. One will be a chemo pill and the other is a PARP inhibitor. The PARP inhibitor is supposed to inhibit dead cancer cells from regenerating and growing inside of her body while the chemo pills will kill the live cancer cells that have spread to other parts of her body. She will be on a "one week on" and "two week off" cycle with scans after each of the first two cycles. Colie is very optimistic with the opportunity that this clinical trial brings her. She and her mother Sharon will be burning up the highway back and forth between New Jersey and Massachusetts until the trial is complete.

In addition to participating in this very important clinical trial, Colie will also be back on campus this weekend for the Elon University Relay For Life event. On Friday, April 22nd, Colie will be the guest speaker during the 11:30pm time slot at the event to be held on the Francis recreational fields. We hope to see you there!

Another big date is Saturday, May 21st. This is the day that Colie will graduate from Elon University with a degree in Exercise Science!

Thanks again to all of you from the bottom of our hearts! Much love - Elon Women's Soccer

Hi "Kickin' It With Colie" Supporters,

We wanted to give you an update on Colie. The results of this past summer's stem cell transplant were positive until a scan in December. That scan unfortunately showed that the tumor in her lung had grown and that the cancer had also spread to her lymph nodes. Colie is currently having inpatient chemotherapy every 4 weeks in a effort to slow the cancer growth down. She is also seeking 2nd opinions about her condition as well as seeking more information and joining wait lists for experimental clinical trials.

With all of that being said, this amazing young woman is on track to graduate from Elon University this May with a degree in Exercise Science. Colie is completing her last 3 courses online this spring. Elon's athletic academic staff and professors have been very helpful with the logistics of achieving this goal. What a tremendous accomplishment.

In her "spare" time, Colie has been working as a Physical Therapist's aide and coaching a U12 girls club soccer team and in her words she "LOVES IT!"

With love,

Elon Women's Soccer

Hello Kickin' it with Colie supporters. We would like to provide you with an update on Colie's journey.

Currently, the tumors have stopped responding to the chemo regime she was doing throughout the spring. Therefore, her doctor's prescribed a different treatment and she received a stem cell transplant in July. On Aug 25th, she had a PET scan that showed that the mass in between the lobes of her lung had shrunk while the other smaller mass had shrunk and appeared to be dead. Her doctor prescribed 6 weeks off until the next PET scan which is scheduled for Oct. 5th. Colie will see her doctor on Oct. 9th. Right after the Oct. 9th doctor's appointment, she will be hustling to Elon for her Senior Weekend celebration and she is very excited to see everyone and to be there for two Elon women's soccer home games! Thanks again for all of your love and support for Colie!
