We all have that baseball diamond that brings back childhood memories. Whether its where you hit your first homerun, made that amazing diving catch, won a state championship, or as a parent, watched your kid learn life long lessons game in and game out. These are the places we grew up at, where we rode our bikes on Saturdays, where we made life long friends. These are places we must continue to invest in for our youth today.
This is where I need your help!! My diamond is Douglas Park, located in Rock Island, Illinois. This was my escape as a kid. Its where I met amazing mentors who taught me what leadership looks like. That failure is a real thing, but its how you respond to these failures that make you great in life. Its where I fell in love with the game of baseball, which eventually led me the opportunity to have a full ride scholarship to college. Allowed me to continue playing the game, but more importantly, the opportunity to continue my education. Without this park, I can't confidently say I would be where I am today. It was a pillar in my development.
The park is in need of desperate repairs, and is in need of being saved. It needs your help to continue that escape for these kids. The average median income within 2 miles of this park is $33, 621. Its a must that we find ways to allow all of our youth to participate in sport activities.
These parks are a staple of most communities. Take a moment and think of a few memories you have at a diamond, go ahead and smile, and please donate so we can continue to make memories for many years to come.
Thanks to all in advance.
