Brain surgery for Ethiopian girl

I was recently contacted by a young man, Mezgebu Bogale's, desperate to save the life of his little sister. He explained that 4 years ago, when she was just 16 years old she was diagnosed with brain cancer. She had been experiencing severe ,persistent headaches and continuous vomiting. The family used all the money available to them and she had a brain MRI and CT scandone which sadly showed that she has an advanced brain tumor with hydrocephalus. A VP shunt was fitted to manage the hydrocephalus and surgery for the cancer was carried out at the Black Lion Hospital, Addis Abeba Ethiopia. Unfortunately the surgery was unsuccessful and she was left with facial and abducent nerve palsy causing facial deviation and she can no longer move her eyes laterally. The neurosurgeons in Ethiopia have said that the cancer is beyond their capacity to heal and advised that the family take her to India where the tumour can be removed but the family cannot afford to do this, even though it would save her young life.

Dear Mezgebu
Your sister requires surgery to remove the tumor and we may have to follow this up by radiation and chemotherapy depending on the biopsy report.
The earliest that we can operate will be in the last week of November 2017. If you need a letter of invitation to come to Vellore please send your details to my secretary Mrs
Revathy who will give you an invitation letter.
The total cost of surgery of surgery including all expenses will be about USD 5500/- and you will need to be here for 2 weeks. The cost of radiation therapy will be about USD 3500/-
