8 women, 16 blades, 1x50k race

Donation protected
Members of Tyne Rowing Club's Women's Squad will be undertaking the Boston Rowing Marathon on Sunday 21st September 2014 to raise money for our club. We will be doing this, along with 3 members of Durham Amateur Rowing Club, in an Octuple - an 8 person sculling boat which requires strong team work and good timing to avoid looking like a giant floating centipede!

Boston Marathon is a gruelling 50km race along the River Witham between Lincoln and Boston in Lincolnshire. We will be starting around 8.30am in the morning and anticipate taking around 4.5 hours to complete the course (hopefully less of course!). Blisters and sore bottoms are a given by the time we reach the finish line!

We would be very grateful for any sponsorship people would be willing to give to help motivate us to keep rowing through the pain and blisters on behalf of our club.

About Tyne RC

Tyne RC is a busy club situated on the banks of the River Tyne at Newburn, Newcastle upon Tyne. We have the longest and best stretch of river for rowing in the north of England and active squads for men, women, veteran men, intermediates, novices and juniors. We are an inclusive and welcoming club with members ranging from 11 right up to 82 years old and are keen to increase our capacity to accommodate an increasingly wide range of groups and participation in the sport of rowing.

We are also in the process of building a new clubhouse. The project is about providing fit-for-purpose dedicated facilities, meeting demand, significantly increasing participation in the sport, inspiring those who row, opening up the club to new users and providing space for social activity. All this will be housed within an iconic and sustainable new-build clubhouse, prominently located on the banks of the River Tyne.

The opening of a new clubhouse will allow the Club to work closely with Norcare, The Percy Hedley Foundation, Visually Impaired north East (VINE), Newcastle’s Olympic weightlifting club, Newcastle and Northumbria Universities and the City Council.

For more information about Tyne RC and the new clubhouse, please visit the Tyne RC website.
