Our brother SSGT Liam Flynn, USMC, tragically lost his life in a helicopter crash on March 10 th 2015 with 6 of his Marine Raider brothers and 4 National Guard flight crew as they carried out night training exercises off the coast of Florida. On his second anniversary we want to follow in his steps and challenge ourselves while at the same time help to raise funds for an organisation who have helped our family significantly since we lost Liam.
On March 10th & 11th 2017 a group of Liam's family and friends will walk 70km from Croagh Patrick, Westport, to the summit of Minaun Heights in Achill, Co.Mayo. You can get more information on the walk by visiting the Facebook page, 704R7.
The MARSOC Foundation are an amazing unassuming group who help families of Marine Special Operations Command. One area they assist with is helping those in the MARSOC Community who have lost loved ones. In our situation living outside of the US the MARSOC Foundation assisted us with flights and accommodation to Washington for Liam's funeral, to North Carolina for 3 of our family members to attend the Celebratation of Life Ceremony in Camp Lejeune, to Florida in 2016 for the 1 year Anniversary and for 3 of Liam's Raider brothers to come to Ireland in Sept 2016 to attend an American Football game in Dublin where he was being honoured.
The thought of another family having to go through the devastating situation of losing a loved one is hard, but the MARSOC Foundation are there to help take away some of that strain and worry so that families can grieve and not have additional worries. We will be eternally grateful for the support our family have received and we just hope that we can help give back so that funds will continue to be available for families in the future.
