My name is Mikey, I am 19 years old and I have grown up with a condition called Verbal Dyspraxia (a neurologicsal speech disorder). This has affected all aspects of my speech, no one could understand a word I was trying to say until i was about 7 years old. I spoke in vowels and missed the beginnings and ends off all my words. After years of intensive speech therapy I can now be understood by everyone I speak to (although not all my sounds are perfect). Now I still struggle with word finding and this affects my literacy and all aspects of my learning.
I have decided that I want to raise the profile of verbal dyspraxia and other neurodiverce conditions as I don't want others to feel as lost as my family when we first got my diagnosis. I have set up Mikeys Wish and am doing a lot of work around awareness as well as raising money for my cause. I want to be able to donate to the SEN departments in schools to help other children who, like me, learn differently. I want to help them have the access to the support they so desperately need but due to lack of funding very rarely recieve,
