Mold destroyed our home and health

Spende geschützt
Hello everyone,

We're Richard and Lillian, and we recently became engaged over Christmas. But also over Christmas and New Years we were forced to flee our home that we've been renting for a year and a half.

Starting on Christmas night, Richard woke up with a migraine that hurt him so badly that he described it as the worst pain he had felt in his life. He was in bed for 3 days, even unable to go spend the day with his little girl that Monday (which is something that he never passes on) and called out of work. That same day I started to get sick as well, after just getting better from being sick only a couple of weeks before hand.

It was over those few days I started noticing something odd in the house. The dresser had a odd fuzz on it that after wiping it away with clorox wipes, came back the next day. The black spots that I had cleaned up in the bathrom came back the next day. And finally when I went to change the sheets, that's when I realized what was wrong.

Our pillows, under the pillow cases were growing mold.

On New Years Eve we relaized we were living in a house full of mold and that it was becoming dangerous. I had even found mold under the walpaper in the bathroom. Richard left for work, not wanting to spend another moment in that house, and I decided to go to a friends house, just to get out for a little bit. Telling them what was going on, they immediately told us not to go back, to stay with them while this gets sorted out.

The next morning I called my land lord and had her come look at the house. I walked her though the house, showed her the pillows, the box spring and mattress  , and then I even decided to peal back the walpaper and showed her where it was growing on the wall.

We walked around the outside of the house, and looked in the crawl space and discovered that there was a large ammount of standing water under the house right against the hot water tank. This water was suppose to be removed from under the house when we had moved in, to my knoweldge it had been taken care of but was not.  The land lady tells me that she feels it's not so bad and that we can stay if we want to deal with it, or move out.

I told her we couldn't stay, that Richard was sick with the migraine, and I at that moment was very sick as well with a severe cough, chest pain, and spitting up green muccus.  She told us she would give us time to figure it out, see if our insurance covered anything and that we could get back to her.

I went right to my insurance and called up someone to come look at the house to inspect it and that evening I was in the hospital, even though I do not have insurance. The chest pain had gotten worse and so did my coughing. I was diagnosed with bronchitus and given medication for it.

A few days later the man comes out to inspect the house and lets me know that the house is in very bad condition and that everything in it is destroyed. Clothes, furniture, bedding, pillows, even dolls and childhood items that I've had since I was a baby.

I had filed a claim with my insurance and Monday the 4th that same night, 2 weeks and 2 days after Richard's migraine had started it hadn't gone away so we took him to the hospital as well even though he does not have insurance either. He was treated for a vascular headache and was sent home with strong medication to help it and told he needed to see a neuroligist.

A few days later we got a call back from the insurance and were told that they cover nothing. So, not only did we lose where we live suddenly, all of our household items were damanged and told we wern't covered for anything.

With the money that we would recieve we would be spending it on replacing all of our furniture (Couch, matress, dressers, coffee table, shelves), clothing, shoes, medical bills, and for moving expences to move to a new apartment or rental home.

We need the funds by April to be able to move and not take up our friends spare room longer then we have to. We are already blessed to at least have such good friends to let us have a room to stay to help us get back on our feet, but the funds to replace our clothing and furniture is not so easy.

Richard and I would forever be so thankful for any ammount donated to help us though this hard time.
