Hope for Lauren

FINDING HOPE.
This is my niece, Lauren. She was born perfectly healthy 15 years ago, but began having gran mal seizures at five months old. At age three, on heavy pharmaceuticals, she called each parent "mommydaddy" not being able to differentiate between them. They thank God for a diet that allowed her to be pharmaceutical free and seizure free for the next ten months. In the first month on the diet and off all drugs, she learned her letters, colors, and numbers. But, the seizures came back. Since then, she has had thousands of seizures that continue to this day. Her parents, my sister Diane and her husband Dan, have tried everything to help her, including an implant device and over ten different pharmaceuticals to no avail. Lauren is now considered cognitively impaired, but her parents believe that the 23 pills she takes daily, combined with the ongoing seizures and the Valium suppositories, make it almost impossible for her to learn and function. Last summer, her parents wept watching a CNN special by Sanjay Gupta about CBD (the part of medical marijuana that does not make you high) and the hope it is offering to children with seizure disorders. Since then, they have been on a mission to attain this medicine for Lauren. The problem is, it is only available right now in Colorado, 1300 miles away from where they live. In order to attain this medicine, they plan on splitting up their family. My sister Diane must take Lauren to Colorado and live, while my brother-in-law, Dan, will continue to work and live in their home state of Michigan with their son, Adam. Lauren’s older brother, Adam, who is graduating high school this year said, "You gotta do it, mom." Even though his life has been severely restricted, he recently wrote a paper where he called his little sister "a gift from God". The cost of the medicine is not covered by insurance. Please help my sister and her family by contributing funds to help her and Lauren relocate to Colorado to see if this can be their little girl Laurens’ "Lorenzo's Oil"; the answer to their prayers. I would love to see a healthy, vibrant Lauren running and playing basketball one day!
