Zoe's Procedure

Donation protected

Hi, everybody. My name is Savannah and I'm raising money for one of my favorite pups, Zoe.

Just under a week ago(2/14), Zoe went to the vet to have a lump removed from her arm, which they then sent off to be tested. We got the results back a few days ago (2/18) and it turns out it was a mast cell tumor.

Since she's a small girl with little legs, there was no way to remove the whole tumor leave her leg, so there is still some of the tumor left. Unfortunately, this type of tumor is cancerous and is likely to spread if left alone. While the tumor in her leg didn't cause her pain, if it were to spread to her heart or her lungs, it would likely be fatal.

We were presented with two options to fight the cancer and prevent it from spreading: chemotherapy treatments at a vet out of town, or amputating her affected leg. To help us decide what to do, we had X-rays done to make sure that she didn't have any tumors anywhere else. Her results looked good and she is tumor free other than the remnants left in her leg. (Good news!!)

After weighing both options, having x-rays done, and asking a lot of questions, we determined that amputating her leg was the best option. While amputation sounds scary, we'd much rather have a happy, healthy, 3-legged Zoe than the alternative. The vet assured us that small dogs recover well when they have a front leg amputated, and that it shouldn't diminish her quality of life at all. Her recovery time should only take about a month and she should be normally mobile on her own.

We've scheduled an appointment for the procedure on February 27th, as we want to move as quickly as possible. The procedure is pretty pricey however, and we could use your help. Any amount is greatly appreciated, and sharing to help get the word out would also be a tremendous help.

Thank you all so much for your love and support through this. Zoe means the world to us and is such a great friend to so many people (and the occasional dog).

Thanks again :)

*A breakdown of costs*
$200 - X-ray fees
$800 - the estimated cost for an amputation at our vet was $700-$800. Because GoFundMe receives some of the money we raise ($0.30/donation & 2.9% of the total), we are trying to raise the full $800. Anything left over from this will go towards aftercare costs & things like stairs for the couch & bed to help Zoe get around easier.
