As you may or may not have heard, on February 6th, I was diagnosed with Classical Hodgkin's Lymphoma. It's been a roller coaster lately, to say the least.
Well to keep it somewhat simple, cancer picked the wrong person to mess with.
It's kind of funny (not really) that it happened to me when it did. Lately, I've felt complacent. I haven't been going out much, I felt like haven't been a good friend to a lot of people, I didn't enjoy doing a lot of things.
Since being diagnosed, I've found a few blessings in disguise. It's given me an opportunity to really re-evaluate some situations and relationships in my life. Music sounds a little different, people seem to be more beautiful, I really try to HEAR how/what people are trying to say (when I'm in a good mood - there are sometimes when I don't want to talk or listen to anyone).
I'd like to give a HUGE shout-out to my strong and wonderful parents who just spent their Valentine's Day at my Chemotherapy 101 class with me (and you thought being single was bad...). They've been a tremendous help in taking care of everything that needs to be taken care of.
My sister has a marvelous way of always saying the right things. Her words have always been a beacon of light in dark times. And, somehow, this situation has proved no different.
And it's insane how absolutely supportive my friends have been so far. I can't explain how much my family and friends are a motivation to whoop cancer's ass. Some may be wondering how they can help! Well I have a few ideas. I'll be having to take quite a bit of unpaid time off work to fight this epic battle, but still have rent and bills to pay (before the medical stuff). For starters, stay positive! Also, CARE PACKAGES ARE AWESOME. And they will definitely help. Send me random stuff like soap, puzzles to keep my brain going, food, things that YOU like, anything you can think of really (message me if you'd like my address). My family and I are starting a blog of our journey. Even following along with our story would be much appreciated.
If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to ask. Feel free to text/facebook message/call me about it. There'll be times when I'm slow to respond, but I've found that it's easier to digest the more I talk about it. Send prayers and good my way!
I start my first round of chemo on Tuesday, February 19.
Then it's another 5 rounds, 1 every two weeks.
So come on cancer, let's dance.
